"Every woman wants to be beautiful and each one of us is beautiful in our own little way. Belly dancing is one way to accent that beauty!"

Halimah was first introduced to belly dance by her Lebanese friends while living in West Africa in the late 90’s. When she moved to Houston in 2001, she enrolled at Sirrom. Here, she learned Egyptian style belly dance under the direction of Thalia, Shakira Masood Ali, Imari, Cynthia A, Linda Underwood. She attends various workshops to get different perspectives and styles from big names in this field. She also traveled to Cairo & Istanbul to see first hand how this dance is performed in its land of origin.

Prior to belly dance, Halimah was involved in classical Malay dance when she was in Singapore and Malaysia. She was also a member of a Balinese dance in troupe in Houston. Her other passion is yoga – she’s been practicing yoga for over 20 years and recently completed her teacher training certification. Last, but not least, she also has a passion for gardening!

Katiushka began her belly dancing career at Sirrom School in ’97 and has studied under Cassandra, Desdemona, MoMo Kadous, Samara, and many more.

"KAKI’s” dance history began at age 8 with ballet, tap, pointe, and cheerleading.

Continuing with her love for gymnastics, she became an Arkansas State Champ in ’96 and ’97.

Participating in the ’04 and ’05 Tribal Quest Workshop in Portland exposed “KAKI” to a wide variety of Tribal instructors including Rachel Brice and the Indigo, Jill Parker’s Ultra Gypsy, and Sharon Moore & Infusion Tribal.

As an original member of the Houston based Urban Gypsy Troupe, “KAKI” is proud to be a part of this beautiful dance called Tribal.

“Melting into and becoming one with the music is the magic of belly dance.”

Nasreena bint Thalia began belly dancing in January 2001 at Sirrom School of Dance.  Under the tutelage of Thalia, Shakira Massood-Ali, Cynthia A. and others her love of Danse Oriental became a part of who she is.  She has attended various workshops to enhance her technique and expand her repertoire and has performed at haflas, health fairs, festivals, clubs and private parties in the Houston area.  Nasreena believes this dance can lead to feminine empowerment as well as enhance posture, muscle tone, self-confidence and joy within oneself.

"I believe the dance is a form of spiritual expression and the inspiration comes from within."

Pat D. started out in a Leisure Learning belly dancing course 14 years ago for exercise and has been a regular student at Sirrom ever since.

The music, the energy the dance provides, and the costumes (of course) keep her interested.  She would like students to know that anyone can learn to belly dance and they have lots of fun in class. Her favorite dance experience is when a new dance move she is working on comes together.

Sirrom is located at Weslayan and Bissonnet, in the walkway between Randalls and Walgreens.
