Sirrom is delighted to welcome Phaedra and Samara for a two-day workshop.

Phaedra is known for her graceful femininity, yet strong style she has brought to the oriental dance.
Her career has taken her from cabarets, where she appeared as a solo dancer and partner to Ibrahim Farrah, to the concert stage.  She is acclaimed for her expertise in Danse Orientale, Pharaonic, Ghawazee, Mediterannean Folklore, Beledi and Saidi dance styles. Her numerous theatre engagements with the Near East Dance Group include appearances at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, the Theatre of the Riverside Church in NYC, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D. C., and New England Life Hall in Boston. Solo appearances include New York's American Museum of Natural History, La Mama Theater,  Madison Square Garden and the United Nations, as well as Arabic, Turkish, Greek, and  Israeli festivals.

Phaedra is a delightful teacher, exacting, but patient. She presents her workshop as a joyful and fun-learning experience.  Whether teaching or performing, she adds a natural delicate purity to the dance reminiscent of the ethnic Middle Eastern woman, which is no wonder considering she is born of Greek and Turkish parentage. Visit her website at http://www.phaedradance.com

Samara’s hallmark style, a blend of serene elegance, spiritual grace, and technical prowess, is the result of a lifelong commitment to Oriental dance. Drawn to the dance via her Mediterranean heritage (Greek and Turkish), Samara’s background enhanced her keen sense of rhythm and her mastery of hip dynamics that characterize the dances of the Middle East. Samara began dancing professionally in her teens, having already studied other dance forms extensively. Her exotic beauty and natural talent soon made her one of the most sought after dancers in the New York Area. Visit her website at http://www.samaradance.com/index.htm

Also join us Sunday after the workshop for a special video session of achival footage of a full concert of the Ibrahim Farrah Near East Dance Group; unreleased footage of Nadia Gamal and the Jamal Twins; and an interview with Ibrahim Farrah and Nadia Gamal. This is a not-to-be-missed event.

All events will be held at Sirrom.
